Exploring the Governance of Complex Society
—The Context, Logic and Strategy of Chinese Social Governance
Jing Tiankui Gao Herong
Abstract: Complexity is the inherent property of the Chinese society. Compared to the modern Western society, the complexity of Chinese society is a characteristic that cannot be ignored. There is not only a difference in the degree of social complexity between China and the West, but more importantly, the basic logic of their social governance is extremely different from each other. Facing the increasingly complex social situation, we should understand China's political, economic and cultural characteristics in a realistic manner; objectively and scientifically develop China's own social governance strategy; improve the democratic governance mode suited to China's complex social conditions; form a governance mechanism composed of both the "visible hand" and "invisible hand"; uphold the governance principle of inclusiveness and cooperation; be aware of the bottom line; build a governance system centered on people's livelihood; and absorb advanced governance experiences of all times and all countries while upholding the principal role of the party exercising social governance, and creatively transform them into feasible strategies for social governance in China.
